My main goal in the first few sessions is to learn more about the help you wish to receive. I provide short summaries about what I am hearing to make sure I am understanding you accurately. At the end of the first session, I provide a tentative treatment plan, which is modified as we continue. I work with clients from age 8 upward, and have over 30 years of experience in NYS assisting clients with depression, anger problems, anxiety, couple and family problems, and addictions. I also help individuals with habit-related problems, including smoking cessation and weight loss. At all times I attempt to be a gentle and responsive psychologist.
I have integrated several orientations, including client-centered, cognitive-behavior therapy, family systems and hypnotherapy, and tailor them to my clients’ problems and needs. An important specialty area, in addition to the above, is problems related to spirituality and religion. I also have experience in working with sexually diverse clients, including gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender people, and individuals questioning their orientation.
I see clients every week or every other week depending on your needs. The sessions are 50 minutes in length. Frequently I may suggest out of session reading, assessment, and other activities which can accelerate your progress in treatment. My office is handicapped accessible.
